EDI Analytics for Excel

Bring live market, company, fund, macro, FX, and rates data into Excel. No desktop software or local server is required.

Using a company-managed Microsoft 365 account? Send this page to your Microsoft 365 administrator. Central deployment is the easiest and most reliable installation method.

For Microsoft 365 admins

Deploy EDI once to the users or groups who need it.

  1. Download manifest.prod.xml.
  2. Open the Microsoft 365 admin center.
  3. Go to Settings → Integrated apps → Upload custom apps.
  4. Choose Office Add-in, upload the manifest, and assign a pilot group.
  5. After it appears in Excel, expand the assignment to the intended users.

Microsoft 365 deployment can take up to 24 hours to appear. EDI is web-hosted at https://api.edi.finance and requests read/write access to the open workbook so it can insert formulas and reports.

For individual users

Use this route only when your organization allows custom add-ins.

  1. Download manifest.prod.xml.
  2. In Excel, select Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins.
  3. Open My Add-ins → Manage My Add-ins → Upload My Add-in.
  4. Select the downloaded manifest and choose Upload.
  5. Open the EDI ribbon tab, choose Setup, and connect your API key.

If “Upload My Add-in” is absent, your organization has disabled self-service installation. Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to use the admin instructions.

Windows desktop: shared-folder catalog

For desktop Excel on Windows when “Upload My Add-in” is not available (common on volume-licensed Office).

  1. Download manifest.prod.xml into a new folder, e.g. C:\edi-addin — the folder will be shared, so keep only the manifest in it.
  2. Right-click the folder → Properties → Sharing → Share…, share it with your own user, and note the network path shown (e.g. \\YOUR-PC\edi-addin).
  3. In Excel: File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → Trusted Add-in Catalogs.
  4. Paste the network path as the catalog URL, click Add catalog, and tick Show in Menu.
  5. Close every Excel window and reopen Excel.
  6. Go to Insert → My Add-ins → Shared Folder, select EDI Analytics, and choose Add.

The catalog URL must be the shared folder's network path (it starts with \\) — not a local C:\ path, and not the manifest file itself.

Get your API key

The EDI task pane asks for an API key under Setup. Generate one here with your EDI account.

Confirm it works

  1. Open a blank workbook and connect EDI from the task pane.
  2. Enter =EDI.VALUE("AAPL-US","MARKET_CAP") in a cell.
  3. A numeric value confirms that installation and account access are working.

Troubleshooting

The EDI tab has not appeared

Restart Excel and make sure you are signed in with the Microsoft 365 account to which the add-in was assigned. Admin deployments may take up to 24 hours.

Excel shows #NAME?

Close all Excel windows and reopen Excel so it reloads the EDI custom-function catalog. If the problem continues, remove an older EDI installation before reinstalling.

“Upload My Add-in” is missing

This usually means your organization restricts custom add-ins. Use centralized deployment through your Microsoft 365 administrator.

A security-certificate error when adding the manifest

That dialog is Excel's legacy “XML expansion packs” feature, which cannot install this add-in — the certificate error is expected there. EDI is a web add-in: use the shared-folder catalog steps above, “Upload My Add-in”, or admin deployment.

The add-in cannot connect

Confirm that your network permits HTTPS access to api.edi.finance, then reopen the task pane and check the API key under Setup.
